Claiming that the fire had been extinguished and everything is normal since Tuesday morning, the Canacona Fire Services informed people and wildlife around Chapoli would not face any danger.
A source at the Canacona fire station informed that firefighters along with forest staff had worked the entire night and returned to the barracks only at 6 am on Tuesday, after ensuring that the fire was extinguished.
According to the source, the forest staff and fire personnel had returned on Monday night after controlling the fire and taking measures to stop the fire from spreading to other areas.
They, however, had to rush back at 3.30 am following information that the fire has restarted at the site and remained at the site till the fire was completely extinguished.
The Shristhal Biodiversity Management Committee members visited the site along with Canaocna Dy Collector Ramesh Gaonkar.
Chairman of Sristhal Biodiversity Committee Vinay Tubki, members Shirish Pai, Damodar Chiri, Panch members Rajesh Velip, Tejas Naik Gaonkar, Pratap Naik Gaonkar, and Navjyot Naik Gaonkar and Deputy Collector Ramesh Gaonkar were present at the spot till late night.
In a statement on Tuesday afternoon, Shristhal BMC informed further that since there is no path to the forest, one has to endure a lot of hardships to go through thorny bushes.
