MARGAO
Deputy Conservator of Forests, South Prem Kumar on Tuesday has attributed the fire at Chapoli-Canacona to the dry clumps of bamboo trees.
He said his office is awaiting the ground report on the situation at Chapoli from the ground staff in the area.
He said the forest department will also seriously take up the issue of fires on the Paroda hillock, saying all action will be taken as per the law.
“The fire is believed to have occurred at Chapoli to the clumps of bamboo. We should not forget this is a fire season, In South Goa, most of the fires have taken place in private forest areas. In case of fires in private forests, our jurisdiction ends in government forest area”, he said, while making a plea to the local populace, including the elected representatives to keep an eye on the fire incidents and report them to the department.
