The Chinchinim Village Panchayat has dashed off a letter to the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) drawing the attention of the Pollution Board to the transportation of fish on the NH66 in bad and rotten shape emanating bad odour which affected the ambient air quality.
A copy of the letter has been also addressed to the Cuncolim police for necessary action.
In his letter, Chinchinim Sarpanch Valentino Barretto informed GSPCB member Secretary Shamila Monteiro that small pick-up vans have been transporting rotten fish to the industrial estate at Cuncolim, probably for the fish meal plant, along the Dandeavaddo-Chinchinim-Panzorconne road.
He pointed out these pick up vans are emanating foul smell, polluting the ambient quality of air, thereby causing air pollution.
He told the media that these small pick-ups are probably transporting the fish to the fish meal plant located at the Cuncolim Industrial estate for disposal. “Our contention is simple, that transportation of the fish should not cause nuisance for the local people along the NH66”, he said.
