Social Welfare Minister and Sanguem MLA Subhash Phaldessai had appealed to the people of villages in Sanguem who are affected due to Eco Sensitive Zone (ESZ) areas notified by the Ministry for Environment and Climate Change to attend a meeting at Cola Betul on Monday.
Addressing a function to lay the foundation stone for a retaining wall and bandhara in Gawliwada at Curdi-Waddem on Saturday, the minister appealed to the villagers to make their grievances heard by the central government appointed committee, which is in the State since the last few days.
Reminding the people that certain villages in Sanguem taluka are likely to come under Eco Sensitive Zone as notified by the central agency, Phaldessai highlighted the difficulties that villagers would have to face once the notification comes into effect.
“The villagers who reside within the proposed ESZ will face severe difficulties and problems in construction of houses and to move out of their houses. It is in this context that villagers need to attend the meet at Cola in large numbers,” added Phaldessai.
“Once notified, even the State government will not be able to do anything in the matter,” he added.
Speaking further at the function, Phaldessai appealed to villagers to support the government’s move to get the IIT project at Rivona-Sanguem.
He said the land presently identified to set up the prestigious institution does not cause any harm to anyone but still there may some people who may attempt to raise their voice against the IIT without any valid reasons. Phaldessai appealed to all those concerned to support the IIT project.
