The Motor Accident Claims Tribunal, North Goa has directed a couple to compensate a pedestrian woman’s family with Rs 4.80 lakh, who succumbed to injuries sustained in a 2020 accident.
As per the case details, around 9:15 am on December 21, 2020, Shobha Salgaonkar was walking along the extreme left side of the road from Ponda to Tisk Usgao when a Dio bike GA-05-C-4360, in the wrong direction, recklessly collided with her.
The claimants “ victim’s son Somnath and daughter-in-law Saishree submitted to the Tribunal that the injured died while undergoing treatment and filed a compensation claim of Rs 5 lakh against the scooter owner, Nataline Colaco, and her husband Jerry “ the license holder.
In the Tribunal proceedings presided over by Member Vijayalaxmi Shivolkar, witnesses, including an eyewitness testified in favour of the victim’s family. The deceased, as per the family, earned Rs 5000 per month working as a housemaid although no evidence was presented regarding her employer.
Nonetheless, based on other relevant evidence, the Tribunal ruled that the Colaco couple is jointly and severally liable to pay the claimants Rs 4,80,699 as compensation, with 7 per cent interest per annum from the date of filing the petition until the date of payment, through a bank.
