Goa Pradesh Congress Committee on Sunday observed ‘National Betrayal Day’ marking the fourth anniversary of the draconian move of demonetization announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 8 in 2016.
Briefing the media at Congress House, Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat stated, “We observed this day as the ‘National Betrayal Day’. PM Modi had said that the move would help combat terrorism and black money. What was achieved is a mystery. Real estate industry across the country was paralysed for almost two years. According to the Reserve Bank of India, almost 99.3 per cent of the demonetized currency in circulation was returned to the system and no black money was accounted for. So, who benefited?”
Kamat said that thousands of people lost their hard-earned money and every sector dealing in cash suffered in the immediate aftermath of the decision.
