Delhi man, son arrested for assaulting Morjim VP secy

Allegedly threatened to get victim suspended

A Delhi man and his son have been arrested by Pernem police on charges of assaulting the secretary of Morjim panchayat at the Pernem BDO office on Thursday.

According to reports, the incident took place when the Panchayat Secretary Sachin Dhawaskar, (35) had gone to the Pernem BDO office at about 3.30 pm in connection with a Right to Information (RTI) appeal filed by the accused, Sanjay Relan, who is presently residing in Siolim.

Dhawaskar alleged that Sanjay and his son, Mitesh, abused and threatened him, while also catching hold of him and assaulting him, tearing his shirt and damaging his gold chain.

Dhawaskar further complained that Mitesh assaulted him with a steel water bottle on his neck and right hand wrist, while Sanjay bit his right leg.

The panchayat secretary also accused them of threatening to get him suspended from service.

Acting on the complaint, PI Sachin Lokre said the two accused were later arrested under Sections 115, 118(1), 352, 351(3), 121(1), 132, 324(3)(4) r/w 3(5) of BNS and 3 of PDDP Act.

Speaking to reporters at the Pernem police station, Panchayat Secretary Sachin Dhawaskar stated that the two accused had sought information under RTI from the Morjim panchayat

“I had gone to the Pernem BDO to hand over the RTI details and I wanted them to sign on one copy. But they refused to do so and instead, started abusing, threatening and assaulting me,” said Dhawaskar.

Pernem PSI Prathmesh Parsekar is investigating the case.
