Displaced GMC kiosk owners/vendors are hoping to be rehabilitated at the earliest, following a meeting between the deputy collector, PWD official and one of the affected kiosk owners.Speaking to The Goan, kiosk owner Domnic Pereira informed that he remained present for the meeting with the North Goa deputy collector along with PWD AE Ravindra Hegde on Monday.
“I met deputy Collector along with PWD AE Ravindra Hegde to discuss the rehabilitation process. The PWD submitted copy of plan and other documents relating to the rehabilitation process,” Pereira stated and added that the deputy Collector has informed that he would go through all documents and complete the process of rehabilitation as early as possible.
The meeting of the Deputy Collector and the PWD official comes against the backdrop of PWD submitting to the Deputy Collector that the work on the kiosks has been completed.
“This office has completed the construction of 63 gaddas/kiosks in front of Goa Medical College. The constructed gaddas/kiosks are to be handed over to the affected parties,” the communiqué submitted on June 20 states.
It may be recalled that the kiosk owners on May 28 had threatened to resume their agitation if the shops were not allotted to them in a week’s time.
The kiosk owners had stated that despite the contractor submitting the completion certificate to PWD, the PWD had not communicated to the Collector’s office about the same as they said that the rehabilitation process would be done by the Collector.
