A delegation of Divar locals led by Cumbarjua’s MGP president Narayan Verlekar met North Goa MP Shripad Naik to demand bridge for the island.
Speaking to The Goan, Verlekar informed that the Divar locals have been suffering for decades due to the absence of a bridge connecting the island to the mainland.
“So, we met MP Naik today and urged him to use his good offices to influence the government to begin the work on the bridge connecting the Divar island to alleviate the hardships faced by the locals,” Verlekar said.
He further informed that a lot of time is lost in crossing to the mainland via the ferries.
“Also, when the ferries broke down or are unable to operate due to thick fog or flooding, the hardships worsen,” he said while informing that it is high time that the Divar island gets a bridge connecting to the mainland.
MP Naik informed that he would speak to CM Pramod Sawant as well as PWD minister Nilesh Cabral and apprise them of the need for a bridge connecting the island.
“The issue has been pending for long but could not be executed due to various reasons,” Naik informed.
Meanwhile, earlier in the day the delegation also met Power Minister Sudin Dhavalikar at his residence and also urged him to take up the issue with the government on a priority basis.
