For six months and a half now since Covid raised its ugly head in March last, these health warriors worked from the front, first to take care of visitors quarantined at the centres and later when the Margao Residency was notified as a care centre for health workers and general patients.
As the authorities finally stopped admitting Covid patients at the Margao Residency from Wednesday, these health warriors won accolades and appreciation as they were bestowed the honour for their extraordinary service to the society during extraordinary times.
These doctors, paramedics and multi-tasking staff (MTS) were responsible for attending to 1,500 visitors, who were quarantined during the initial days of the lockdown. And, they led from the front when the Margao Residency was notified as a Covid care centre, offering hope to around 700 patients.
The last of the asymptomatic patient has since been discharged from the Margao Residency with instruction from the authorities not to admit any more patients in the GTDC-owned residency.
As the health workers packed their bags to leave the Margao Residency with instructions coming in not to admit any more patients, Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant Kavlekar descended on the residency on Wednesday to felicitate the health warriors with meritorious certificates.
“The workers who were honoured on Wednesday have put up a brave front in their life. Everyone wants to save life in times of pandemic. But, these workers worked to keep others safe. You indeed deserve praise and appreciation,” he added.
Saluting the health and MTS workers for leading from the front to fight Covid, the Deputy Chief Minister said their sacrifices will not be forgotten.
Appreciating Dr Mahesh Verlekar and his team for the work put in at the Margao Residency during the last seven months, Kavlekar said the health workers put their lives to risk just to serve others.
CM gets clean chit from his deputy in handling of Covid pandemic
MARGAO: The opposition has left no stone unturned to target the Chief Minister over the government’s handling of Covid-19 pandemic, but Pramod Sawant has received a clean chit from his deputy, Chandrakant Kavlekar.
The Deputy Chief Minister not only patted the Chief Minister on his back for taking bold decisions to control Covid, but went on to say that the CM worked as a team captain to ensure safety and protection of Goan people.
He, however, reminded that Covid has not only affected Goa and the country, but some of the advanced countries of the world as well. “The Chief Minister took bold steps by reviewing the situation from time to time by working as a team captain to control the Covid situation,“ Kavlekar added.
