Facing flak over its silence where schools had sought written undertaking from parents seeking to absolve managements of all responsibility if their wards were infected with Covid virus, the Directorate of Education on Tuesday issued an order asking schools and managements not to insist on parents consent for students to attend physical classes.
The order signed by Director of Education Bhushan Savaikar says, “all heads of government, government-aided/unaided pre-primary, primary, secondary higher secondary and special schools are hereby requested not to insist parents consent for students to attend physical classes”.
Schools had started classes for students of Std 1 to 12 in physical mode in a staggered manner from February 21 after an almost two-year Covid-induced break. However, there was a lot of confusion and resentment among parents over the consent form which the schools had insisted.
With the positivity rate at an all-time low, the Expert Committee has now advised the State government that schools can be permitted to conduct regular physical classes at 100 per cent capacity.
