The Crime Branch (CB) team has arrested five out of six persons, including two Gujarati natives, on charges of defrauding US nationals by falsely promising speedy delivery of Amazon items they had purchased.
In a raid conducted on the night of September 15-16 in Sangolda, the CB found that a temporary glass structure was being used as a call centre by the fraudsters led by Tilak Joshi, the call centre manager, and Harsh Patel, both hailing from Ahmedabad in Gujarat.
While five persons were arrested, one reported being unwell. The CB disclosed that these accused had no authorization from the online shopping company for any delivery services.
"They were deceiving US nationals by falsely promising speedy delivery of Amazon purchases and convincing them to pay $49 or $99 for rapid delivery of their items. The accused were not authorized Amazon agents and couldn't actually expedite Amazon service deliveries. Instead, they were taking commissions," details shared by the office of the PRO stated.
Thirty CPUs and an equal number of keyboards and monitors, 32 headphones, two laptops, a modem, lease line cable, two routers, and 29 mobile phones were seized from them.
Joshi and Patel are remanded to four days of police custody and the other three have been remanded to 14 days of judicial custody.
