MARGAO
The fate of the 5TPD bio-methanation plant set up by the Margao Municipal Council at the SGPDA plant hangs in balance.
After complaints of illegal discharge of digested slurry from the plant into the adjoining fields raised an uproar, the plant was refurbished by the contractor to meet the requirements. Hopes were even raised that the plant would soon be made operational after the PWD issued an NOC to accept the digested slurry from the plant at its sewerage treatment plant at Sirvodem.
The 5TPD plant, however, is lying idle for the moment. While the Margao Municipal Council has dashed off a letter to the contractor to resume operations, the plant remains shut.
In fact, the Margao Municipal Council finds itself in a tight spot over the biomethanation plant. On the other hand, the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) has granted the consent to operate to the bio-methanation. Take note, the GSPCB, in another letter to the MMC, has told the Civic body to shift the operations of the bio-methanation from the SGPDA market to Sonsodo.
