In a fresh notice Directorate of food and Drugs administration (FDA) has warned all food business operators for strict compliance of food Safety and standards drawing attention towards some new developments in Food safety and Standards Act 2006.
There were many complaints about the violation of FSSAI rules by the food business operators. GOACAN has complained about the violations of FSSAI rules at KTC bus stand, Panaji which was noticed during a joint inspection with KTC officials on December 24, 2021 as part of National Consumers Rights Day.
As there is rise in unauthorised sale of food products, FSSAI has made it mandatory to mention 14-digit FSSAI licence or registration certificate number on receipt, invoices, cash memo, bills etc. from Jan 1, 2022.
The FDA has warned food business operators to refrain from using newspapers for wrapping food articles
"The FSSAI has prohibited the use of newspapers for wrapping food articles. No food articles should come into direct contact with newspapers'', says an order issued by the Directorate of Food and Drug administration.
The business operators have to ensure that registration certificate or licence and food safety display board has to be displayed at a prominent place in their premises.
All food business operators engaged in selling of snack items (samosa, sweets, bakery items) should display the best before date of such items on the tray/box in which these items are kept for sale, says the notice.
The notice further says that, "This alert notice shall be considered as the official communication from the Directorate. Non compliance will attract penal action under FSSA 2006".
