MARGAO
An election flying squad rushed to Ward No. 25 of the Margao Municipal Council in the Gogol housing Board to stop an election meeting of BJP-backed Vibrant Margao candidate on Tuesday evening for violating the meeting deadline.
The meeting was attended amongst others by Deputy Chief Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar. Ajgaonkar, however, denied having violated the Model Code of Conduct, saying the meeting had just got over at that time.
The flying squad headed by Meghashyam Naik rushed to the meeting venue following a complaint that the meeting was going on well beyond the 8 pm deadline.
The flying squad in charge told the gathering to disperse and clear the venue. Meghashyam has filed his report to the Returning Officer and Sub-Divisional Magistrate on the meeting.
Naik informed that the squad was in Ward No. 1 removing election banners. He said no sooner the squad received the information, they rushed to Ward No. 25 to disperse the gathering. “I have filed the report to the Returning Officer about the incident,” he said.
