Flyover will remain open for public use, says Vasco MLA

Slams MPA, says vital public routes can't be blocked

VASCO

Strongly condemning the actions of the Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) on Thursday, Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar asserted that the flyover and the entry/exit ramps at Baina were constructed for public use and will remain accessible to the people.

Salkar insisted that the MPA would not be allowed to block these vital public routes.

“We condemn the MPA’s act to construct gates and a compound wall to block public access to the ramps of the newly inaugurated loop flyover in Vasco. An MPA official also behaved rudely and arrogantly with the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chairperson, the first citizen of the city. This behaviour is unacceptable. The MPA must respect the chairperson’s position, and if they fail to show respect, they should not expect any respect in return,” said a livid Salkar.

Salkar said he had raised concerns during the inauguration ceremony with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant about the possibility of MPA closing the gates.

“However, I did not anticipate such a move or the arrogance displayed by MPA officials,” said Salkar.

“We are committed to ensuring that the flyover and ramps in Vasco and Baina remain open for public use. The government has invested significant funds in this infrastructure for the benefit of the people, not for any private party. We will do everything in our power to ensure that it serves the public,” he assured.

Salkar further disclosed that he had spoken to both Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and the MPA Chairman about the issue.

“The CM has invited me for a meeting, and we will resolve this matter within two days. I want to assure the people of Vasco that their needs will be prioritised, and the flyover will remain open to all.”

He reiterated the government’s commitment to public welfare and emphasised that the ramps and flyover were built for the convenience and benefit of the citizens, not for private interests.
