Fraudsters impersonating Mumbai police dupe local of Rs 1.21 cr

The Cyber Crime police are investigating into a complaint by a Dona Paula resident, Surya Singh Lawande, alleging that some people impersonating as Mumbai police officers tricked him into paying a sum of Rs 1,21,34,000.

According to the complaint, the unknown accused posed as police officials and initiated contact with Lawande via Skype, adopting aliases such as "Mumbai Police 0216" and "Mumbai CBI."

The victim stated that the imposters thereafter coerced him into executing a Real-Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) transfer of the whopping amount. The offence occured between March 15 to March 21 and by the time Lawande realised he was cheated, the accused had blocked all the contacts with him, police said.
