A gardener employed at a gated community villas was arrested for allegedly stealing cash of Rs 12 lakh from one of the villas in Assagao.
The accused identified as Bishwajit Gour (20) of Kolkata, West Bengal was arrested within 12 hours of registering the complaint and has been taken into custody, Anjuna police informed.
According to the police, the complainant, Mehboob Mulla reported that an unknown person broke open the door of his villa and committed theft of Rs 12 lakh cash from the safe locker.
During the investigation, when the police checked the footage of the CCTV cameras, the accused was found entering the villa through a small opening on the top floor of the villa by cut opening a steel mesh.
“While cutting the steel mesh, the accused suffered injuries to his arm. We found bloodstains on the door and on the floor of the villa, which was one of the major clues,” a police official involved in the investigation informed.
Accordingly, all employees were questioned and finally police zeroed in on one of the employees who had injury marks.
“During interrogation, the employee who was working as a gardener in the gated community confessed having committing the theft,” police informed.
Police recovered the full amount of Rs 12 lakh which the accused had kept hidden in the toilet of his rented room.
The accused has been arrested under Sections 457 and 380 of the IPC.
LPSI Sneha Sawal and Constables Ajinkya Ghogale, Rupesh Azgaonkar and Hemant Matondkar formed part of the investigation team.
Anjuna Police is conducting further investigation under the supervision of PI Prashal Dessai and SDPO Mapusa Jivba Dalvi.
