With just four days left for the commencement of three days of carnival festivities in the state, a political carnival seemed unfolding in the commercial capital with Goa Forward Chief Vijai Sardesai taking to the social media to charge ruling politicians for trying to sabotage people’s festival planned at Fatorda.
“Which political God dares to sabotage a people’s fest”, he pointed out, while saying that Goemkars of South Goa want to know who the evil mind is, pressuring government officials to stop the 4-day People’s Big Fat Carnival Fatorda blast, planned at Fatorda from Big Fat Saturday.
The Fatorda MLA did not single out any ruling politician behind attempts to sabotage the carnival fest hosted by his We For Fatorda on the Ravindra Bhavan-Swimming pool stretch of the road. He, however, sought to know the politicians, who are involved in arm twisting honest officials to overturn their own past decisions.
Sources in the know informed that the We For Fatorda had planned four days Carnival festivities on the Ravindra Bhavan-Swimming pool road by closing the road. Applications to this effect were made to the concerned authorities, but the authorities have neither given nor rejected the permission sought by the group.
“I have been told that at a high level meeting held at the district Collectorate a day ago to take stock of the ensuing carnival festivities, an attempt has been made to arm twist the officials not to grant permissions for the Fatorda Carnival blast”, Sardesai said.
He added: “The authorities have nether issued the permission nor rejected them till date, indicating that this is a clear attempt by the government and the politicians to sabotage the carnival festivities planned at Fatorda”.
The Fatorda MLA claimed that the when the Margao Municipal Council adopted a resolution to hold the Margao and shigmo float parade back on the old Holy Spirit Church-Margao Municipal square route, councilors had also demanded that the We for Fatorda should be permitted to hold the Carnival blast near the Ravindra bhavan road. “When this resolution is adopted by the Margao Municipal Council, I fail to understand why some politicians are out to sabotage the Fatorda carnival blast,” he wondered.
With just four days left for the King Momo to unveil his decree of four days of merry making, all eyes are focused on the Goa Forward Chief how he will go about organizing the Fatorda carnival blast, whether he would change the venue of the carnival festivities.
Incidentally, the Carnival float parade had witnessed tense moments two years ago till the eleventh hour when plans to change the carnival route from Fatorda to Margao was challenged in the High Court. Even as the Margao Carnival committee had put in place arrangements to hold the parade on the old route, the High Court order forced the district authorities to shift the parade back on the Fatorda route at the eleventh hour.
