For perhaps the first time in the State, Goa police have begun blocking mobile phones, which could potentially be misused by cybercriminals or other criminals.In four months, the department has blocked over 1000 phones while 48 are unlocked and 310 phones which were either missing or stolen are traced back.
Details by the North Goa police mentions that out of 1009 blocked phones, 874 were in north district, 134 in south and one by CID whereas 48 were unblocked - all in north Goa. Of those traced phones, 262 are in north and 48 in south.
"We understand your concerns about stolen mobiles. In this regard, the teams of Calangute, Anjuna and Mapusa PS have blocked more than 800 phones to prevent their misuse and other damages to the privacy of the citizens. @goapolice are the shield of the people against crime," read a post by the North Goa SP's official Twitter handle.
