The economic offenses wing of Mumbai police will be investigating a Goa-based real estate firm for defrauding an investor, from this same State, of a whopping Rs 14.9 crore approx.
The jurisdiction of the crime that occurred from January 2008 to February 2023 was at its office in Bayside Mall in Tardeo, Mumbai, prompting the complainant to approach the Mumbai EOW followed by registration of a First Information Report against the accused.
The local Premanand Gawas charged Reis Magos Estate Private Limited and its three directors, Suresh Parulekar, Prasad Parulekar, and Manda Suresh Parulekar, of not only cheating him on the pretext of making available a property to him but also made sure the sale agreement remained unregistered.
Police sources said that a sub-registrar could also be dragged into the investigation as the accused is believed to have connived with him to commit the fraud. The role of other concerned government officials will also be scrutinised.
According to the case details, the accused utilized the victim’s funds to acquire land on his behalf but never got it registered. The power of attorney, which was meant to enable the smooth purchase of the land, was also tampered with.
The Mumbai EOW has registered the case under Sections 409 (criminal breach of trust by a public servant, banker, merchant, or agent), 420 (cheating), and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
Sources revealed that the accused will either be summoned for questioning in Mumbai or a team will arrive in Goa to interrogate the accused as well as check the relevant evidence pertaining to the matter. Their arrest is also not ruled out.
