Govt busy with double-tracking, forgot to resume Vasco-Kulem local train: AAP

VASCO
Mormugao Constituency convenor for AAP and social activist heading NGO ‘Goa First’ Parshuram Sonurlekar on Thursday hit out at the State government for supporting the double-tracking of railways while ignoring repeated demands of residents to resume the local train between Vasco and Kulem.

Speaking to reporters, Sonurlekar said the local train service between Vasco and Kulem, which had a tremendous response, had been stopped for over seven months amid the pandemic.

"While the government opened a lot of activities under the Unlock initiative, including transportation and tourism, it has ignored repeated requests from people to get this local train service started.”

"We have seen that there has been a personal hearing called for acquiring land for double-tracking of railways, but why are they not looking at the Vasco-Kulem train?”

Sonurlekar said the government has been taking an extreme interest in double-tracking of railways which has been opposed vociferously but is not willing to consider the resumption of the local train that is demanded by people.

“We feel the government is so busy with the double-tracking that they have forgotten to implement what people are demanding. We have written to CM and to the union railways minister to resume the local train service," said Sonurlekar.
