A day after the flooding at entrance to the hospital exposed the haphazard development in the area, South Goa district hospital authorities have pointed out that the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) was requested many times not only to fix the issue of flooding at the entrance, but resolve many an issue plaguing the hospital.
District Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Rajendra Borkar informed that his office had written several letters to the GSIDC to fix the issues staring at the hospital, including the inundation of the hospital entrance during the rains. “The GSIDC was scheduled to develop the front portion of the area between the hospital compound wall and the main road as a bus bay for the benefit of the visitors and patients”, he said, adding that the project has not been taken up till date.
He added: “There are a number of issues which need to be resolved at the hospital. We have written letters to the GSIDC to fix the issues at the earliest”.
The front portion of the area, between the main road and the hospital compound wall, was scheduled to be developed into a parking lot for two-wheelers and four-wheelers, besides a bus bay.
A former GSIDC official told The Goan that the agency had even worked out the project cost, around Rs three crore, but the same could not be implemented after the Sewerage Corporation informed that they will require the front portion area for road diversion during the work on the laying of the North Main trunk line.
The GSIDC has provided parking for visitors at the rear side of the district hospital. Officials, doctors and staff of the hospital park their vehicles in the basement of the hospital building.
Meanwhile, Margao Youth leader Prabhav Naik has pointed out that water logging at the entrance of South Goa District Hospital has caused tremendous hardships and inconveniences to the patients and citizens.
He said the situation has only exposed the total lethargy of government towards providing better road infrastructure & healthcare facilities to Goans.
