After a row over Hyderabad police’s jurisdiction in the arrest of a suspected drug peddler from Anjuna last month, the southern state police finally approached its counterparts in Goa seeking a coordinated effort to investigate the case.Highly placed sources told The Goan that Hyderabad City Commissioner C V Anand spoke to Director General of Goa Police Jaspal Singh seeking his consent to send a team to the coastal State for investigation.
“The Hyderabad police team will work in close coordination with the Goa Police to investigate the drug trafficking offence and bring the case to a logical end. They will arrive on a two-day visit from September 19 to 20,” the source said.
Goa Police is also expected to send its team to Hyderabad in the coming days.
Alleged drug peddler Pritesh Borkar’s dramatic arrest from Anjuna by Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing and Osmania University police on August 1 came to light when his family filed a missing complaint with the local police station. Goa Police were kept in the dark despite the rules laid down in case of inter-state arrest.
Borkar was shown as 'arrested' 16 days later during which the Hyderabad police released the names of eight other suspects including Edwin Nunes, owner of the infamous Curlies shack, who was wanted in the case.
Hyderabad City Commissioner’s allegation at a press conference that Goa Police did not cooperate with them sparked off a debate. DGP Singh refuted allegations stating his department approached its counterparts informing them about Nunes’ arrest and if his custody was required. Meanwhile, a joint meeting of Goa Police with its counterparts in other states is soon to be held.
