Candidate sends letter to Presiding Officer fearing civic polls may not be free and fair

Independent Councillor Ganashyam Shirodkar on Thursday dashed of a letter to the Presiding Officer appointed to conduct the election for the post of Margao Municipal Chairperson, fearing that the election may not be carried out in  free and fair manner.

He has also raised fears that plans are afoot to postpone the election on the excuse a couple of Councillors are ill and indisposed.

Addressing the media on Thursday, Ganashyam said he has information that the BJP camp has instructed the party-backed Councillors to click a photograph when they cast their votes at tomorrow’s election. “I have appealed to the Presiding officer not to allow the Councillors to carry their mobiles when they go to cast their vote. I have written a letter to the Presiding officer to ensure the election is conducting as per the laid down guidelines”, he added.
