The Aldona gram sabha on Sunday said that several unauthorised signboards and posters were erected all over the village and since they had no permission the panchayat was losing revenue. The villagers also raised the issue of house tax collection and issues on construction and repair licenses.
A local, Satyavan Kerkar said the panchayat was earning peanuts on signboard tax despite several posters and signboards dotting prime areas in the village.
“Most of these posters and signboards are installed illegally. The panchayat is losing revenue by not collecting tax from such signboards. Secondly, these posters and signboards are blocking the view of the motorists which results in accidents,” Kerkar said.
Aldona Sarpanch Ashwin D’Souza said the panchayat collects fees from only those who seek permission from them and others were all unauthorised.
The sarpanch assured the gram sabha to take action against all unauthorised posters and signboards and ensure that they are removed.
He said the matter would be taken up in the panchayat body meeting for necessary action.
A villager Oldrin Pereira informed the gram sabha that the panchayat has issued one house number to two different houses and questioned how the house tax of the two houses was being collected.
He also alleged that duplicate receipts were being issued.
The sarpanch assured to conduct a proper study in the matter and take appropriate action to recover house tax.
The sarpanch presented the administrative report and the annual income and expenditure report for the financial fiscal 2022- 2023 at the meeting.
