It is important for leaders to be able to digest defeat: Digambar

VASCO

Margao MLA and Former CM Digambar Kamat on Sunday said that it was important that leaders have the capacity to digest defeat and that the innocent people must not be punished using political powers.

Kamat said that Quepem Congress MLA Altone DCosta had to face similar situation after he defeated former Dy CM Chandrakant Kavlekar and the police had not taken action .

" Mormugao taluka saw peaceful elections despite tense environment and Sankalp Amonkar finally won the Mormugao seat. A leader must have the strength to digest his defeat because many people have to face defeat and we cannot win at all times.  It is necessary that the party and leaders have the strength to absorb defeat , because even in Quepem, our candidate Alton DCosta faced the same issues after he defeated former Dy CM Chandrakant Kavlekar,"said Kamat .

"Amonkar won after two consecutive defeats and ideally he should be appreciated for not having given up and putting up a fight but the Holi incident is being blown out of proportion to deploy all the police staff here to target his supporters is not correct We can understand that people who are seen in a video have been arrested by the police but simply arresting people who were not present in the incident or arresting people who are Amonkar supporters because some one has given their names is not correct and this is not as per law and we will not accept this," said Kamat.

" We cannot have cases registered back to back after bail is received in each case . The pressure put on the police will have its repercussions and people may lose patience, " said Kamat.
