The three-member technical committee constituted to examine alleged corruption, irregularities and illegalities in the Kala Academy renovation, has held seven meetings since its new Chairman took charge but is yet to submit a report, despite a 60-day deadline.
Replying to separate LAQs tabled by Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao and MLA Carlos Ferreira, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant did not provide reasons for the delay amid ongoing controversy over the sub-standard work and water-logging issues.
WRD Chief Engineer Pramod Badami heads the Committee after the retirement of its former Chairman Dr Ashish Rege, Principal of Goa Architectural College, in February. The previous committee, formed on January 11, 2023, did not hold a single meeting, despite a preliminary meeting scheduled for April 3, 2023 that did not take place.
“The Vigilance Department issued an order appointing Pramod Badami as Chairman on March 1, 2024. Since then, seven meetings have been held,” the reply stated.
In its first meeting in April, the committee directed the Public Works Department -- the nodal agency for renovation -- to submit all documents, estimates and payments related to the project.
Confirming no interim report has been submitted, the CM stated the committee is required to submit its report within 60 days from its constitution date.
