It was an unusual catch for the RGP team while on a campaign trail in Canacona, when party workers caught labourers red-handed while illegally tapping power from an 11KV alignment on the Agonda road.
A contractor for the electricity department is in the process of laying an 11 KV underground cable to the substations of Agonda and Khola from Canacona Power Station at Char-Rasta.
Digging, excavation, laying of cable and closing of trenches is in progress along the Canacona “Agonda road for the past two week with the help of a JCB and other cable pulling machinery.
The RGP team were on a house-to-house campaign for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, when the team led by RGP General Secretary Vishvesh Naik while heading toward Agonda saw someone dangerously attempting to tap electricity from an open overhead electricity wire passing across the road.
Naik stopped his car and confronted the labourer, who informed him they were tapping power from the 11KV alignment to operate machinery to lay the 11KV electricity cable in the excavated trenches.
Naik confronted them for undertaking work haphazardly and without any type of safety.
“What if somebody comes into contact with the high tension line? Who will be responsible for this tragedy? Why don’t you bring a fuel-operated generator to run your machinery, instead of attempting to save money and risking lives by illegally tapping overhead wires,” Naik reprimanded the labourer.
Meanwhile, the RGP Lok Sabha Candidate Rubert Pereira completed his door-to-door campaigning in Agonda and claimed great response from Agonda village, before proceeding to Gaondongrim.
The RGP candidate and his supporters visited houses in Agonda and distributed pamphlet in both English and Konkani, giving a 9-point manifesto which included the Mhadei river issue, coal matter, dual citizenship issue and ST constitutional rights.
