The South Goa District Collector, Ruchika Katyal has requisitioned the services of the entire premises of Manohar Parrikar indoor stadium at Navelim with immediate effect. The requisition of the indoor stadium has been made under Section 65 of the Disaster Management Act.
In the order, the district Collector, who heads the South Goa district Disaster Management Authority has directed the department concerned to hand over the possession of the stadium to the Deputy Collector and SDM, Margao with immediate effect till further orders, warning of punishment under Section 57 of the Disaster Management Act in case of contravention of the order.
Though the Collector in the requisition order has not mentioned the purpose for which the indoor stadium has been requisitioned, the Margao Municipal Council had made a proposal to the district Collector, South to grant the permission to set up a 25-bedded Covid care centre at the indoor stadium.
In fact, the MMC has started making preparations at the indoor stadium to set up the Covid care centre, with aid pouring from charitable organisations to the civic body toward establishing the Covid care centre.
