Minister for Archaeology Subhash Phaldessai on Wednesday instructed officials to complete work of Sankhali fort by December end.
He conducted a site inspection of the work at the Sanquelim fort, which is being undertaken at a cost of Rs 2.75 crore.
He said the department is making efforts to retain the structure of the fort in the same manner as it existed in the past, with the use of a particular type of stone, clay and other materials.
“There will be a provision for a senior citizen’s centre, library, museum and other facilities, while efforts will be made to attract maximum tourists to the site,” said Phaldessai.
“Besides Bicholim taluka, many historic monuments will be conserved and reconstructed.”
Others present at the site inspection included Director of Archaeology Dr Nilesh Faldesai, Dattaraj Desai, Dr Varad Sabnis, Sumesh Mahale, SMC Deputy Chairperson Anand Kanekar and Chief Officer Kabir Shirgaonkar.
