PORVORIM
Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte has accused the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant of failing to listen to widespread demands for a total lockdown in the State to curb the spread of the Covid pandemic.
Addressing reporters in Porvorim, Khaunte said despite repeated requests, Sawant had refused to declare a statewide lockdown even as death rates were on the rise and the healthcare had collapsed.
“Panchayats and municipal councils across the State are resorting to a lockdown in their respective areas, but the chief minister has refused to take such a step in the name of economy.”
“We do understand economic concerns, but the most important concern right now is that of saving lives,” the former revenue minister said.
Khaunte has also appealed to Sawant to to expedite the vaccination of people above 18 years.
“Vaccinations should be provided free of cost and if we consider 5 lakh people, the government will have to invest only Rs 25 crore for the vaccination drive. The State government can divert the money from the Liberation Day fund for this purpose,” said Khaunte.
