With instances of Covid-positive patients roaming around unmonitored coming to light, the state government has requested local self-government bodies to monitor such persons under home isolation under their jurisdiction.
Member Secretary of the State Disaster Management Authority wrote to the Panchayat Secretary, Health Secretary and Urban Development Secretary informing them that the list will be shared by the respective health officers from the Directorate of Health Services.
“Panchayats and municipal bodies may also provide support to these persons with regard to the provisions of medicine or food or any other items, as required by them, and may also help to provide them ambulance support in case they need for medical support or hospitalization. Special care must be taken to ensure confidentiality of the patients’ details to prevent any social stigma or ostracization,” the letter states.
The local self-government bodies have also been asked to ensure, with the support of the police, that the orders issued by the Collector under Section 144 are being adhered to and those establishments which have been directed for closure do not open.
