MLA threatens ‘Har Ghar Nal, But No Jal’ campaign in Jan

Meets PWD engineer over water shortage in Porvorim

PORVORIM
Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte has threatened to lobby with all legislators from Bardez taluka to expose the government’s failure to provide adequate drinking water by launching ‘Har Ghar Nal But No Jal’ campaign in January 2021.

Residents in Porvorim has been facing acute water shortage since July, prompting many locals to lead a morcha on the PWD office at Porvorim last week. PWD Chief Engineer Ulhas Kerkar had assured residents that the matter would be resolved within a week and the deadline ended on Tuesday.

Kerkar then sought another 2-3 days and disappointed with the lack of resolution to their grievances, Khaunte called on PWD Principal Chief Engineer Uttam Parsekar to get their grievances addressed.

Later speaking to media persons, Khaunte said Porvorim residents want a “positive solution” to the water scarcity issue.

“We gave maximum support to the PWD so that they can find the solution but nothing changed, compelling women of Porvorim to lead a morcha,” Khaunte said.

“The PWD Principal Chief Engineer Uttam Parsekar has assured solutions like uninterrupted water tanker service, increase in quantity of water supplied to Porvorim constituency and also timely maintenance of the water pipelines.

“We are monitoring the water supply situation in December. If PWD fails to execute the solutions, I will meet all MLAs from Bardez taluka to start ‘Har Ghar Nal But No Jal’ campaign from January 2021.”

Khaunte said the campaign would also be taken beyond Bardez taluka.

“If MLAs don’t agree to join hands, local panchayat bodies will be roped in as water scarcity is an issue beyond political affiliations,” said Khaunte.

“Despite abundant rainfall and WRD pumping enough raw water, why should there be scarcity of water? Is it because of starred hotels or is there a tanker mafia,” asked Khaunte.
