The Margao Municipality and the PWD, water supply seemed engaged in a blame game over the delay in zeroing in on the site to house a dedicated overhead water tank close to the two markets.
Following the December 26 fire incident, officials of the District Disaster Management along with MMC and PWD officials had inspected the Pick-up stand area to explore the possibility of utilizing a small space to house the overhead water tank.
Ten and half months down the line, the proposal has been hanging fire, with officials of the PWD and MMC blaming each other for the delay. A PWD, water supply official told The Goan that Margao Municipality is yet to come out with a concrete proposal that would facilitate taking the overhead tank project to the logical conclusion. The MMC, on the other hand, has blamed the PWD for the delay. A civic official has informed that unless the PWD send a concrete proposal, the MMC cannot pursue the matter with the Town and Country Planning department, which is the owner of the Pick-up Stand land.
The blame game has only given credence to fears that no concrete steps have been initiated by the authorities to set up the overhead water tank for handing fires over the last decade.
