Following reports of the tragic death of a 34-year-old tourist from Bangalore off the Baina coast on Sunday, Carlos Almeida, Chairman of the Baina Watersports Association, has clarified that the tourist had not participated in any water sports activities at Baina beach.
In a statement to the media, Almeida explained that the deceased tourist, Sanjay Shrinivas, had arrived by boat from Nerul, which was managed by agent Anil Rathod.
“The tourist had engaged in water sports activities at Dona Paula and later arrived at Grand Island for scuba diving. It was during this time that he reportedly felt unwell and began to choke. Our association’s boat was nearby when the agent requested our assistance, and we immediately helped transfer the tourist to Baina beach, from where he was taken to Chicalim Hospital,” said Almeida.
Almeida also assured the public that all water sports activities in Goa, including those at Baina beach, are conducted legally and with proper safety measures in place.
“There was confusion and panic following the news of a tourist’s death off the Baina coast, and we have been receiving many calls. I want to assure everyone that there is nothing illegal, and we are operating water sports activities in accordance with the law across all locations in North and South Goa. We want to reassure the public that water sports are safe and there is no cause for concern,” added Almeida.
