Old Goa police have arrested a person in Mumbai on charges of duping over a hundred youth on the pretext of providing jobs.
According to the police, the accused Aniket Gaikwad from Ahmednagar-Maharashtra had allegedly collected money from many Goan youth promising them jobs in foreign countries like US, UK, Australia and New Zealand as also on passenger and cargo ships of foreign countries.
“The Goan youngsters got attracted to the lucrative offers given by the accused through another accused from Corlim and collected money in lakhs of rupees,” the police informed.
“Apart from the money, both the accused collected passports and other documents from the youngsters. They also called them to Mumbai for training, document verification, etc. but failed to provide jobs,” the police stated, while adding that the accused initially assured that they would return the money but later cut off all contacts with the affected youngsters.
Acting on a complaint of one Mayur Kunkolkar of Chimbel, an Old Goa police team comprising PSI Laureen Sequeira, constables Nilesh Sakhalkar and Geetesh Gawas visited Panvel, Belapur, Dadar, Kurla, Mulund and Chincholi-Ahmednagar in search of the accused.
Finally, the accused Gaikwad was traced in Mumbai with the joint efforts of Deunar police station of Mumbai police.
The accused was brought in Goa on transit remand and was placed under arrest under sections 406 and 420 read with 34 IPC.
The police suspect that the accused has cheated more than 100 youth in the racket involving lakhs of rupees. Further investigations are underway.
