The Navelim gram sabha on Sunday has resolved to ask the Panchayat to issue stop work order on the Sewerage Infrastructure Development Corporation of Goa Ltd (SIDCGL) after a sewage chamber caved in recently at Nagmodem.
Members pointed out that the stop work order would get the SIDCGL to file a reply and explain the status of the ongoing sewerage works executed in the village.
Some of the members claimed that soil testing is not being done at Mandopa for a pumping station raising eyebrows over the work carried out in the village.
Gram sabha members also came down heavily on the illegal road side vending and sought filing of police cases against the illegal activity.
The members also demanded that the panchaayt insists that all the road side carts get themselves registered with the authorities and obtain the FDA license to sell fast food items.
The issue of garbage management came up for discussions at the meeting, with members demanded that the respective panchayat ward members monitor the CCTV footage for effective implementation of measures against miscreants dumping waste at the black spots.
With the Panchayat installing CCTV cameras at some places to keep miscreants involved in waste dumping at bay, members felt that the objective will be defeated if the CCTV cameras and footage is not monitored on a daily basis.
On the question of the Navelim bus shelter, members urged the Panchayat to relocate the bus shelter in a time bound manner.
The gram sabha approved the budget estimates for the financial year 2024-25, with the Panchayat body earmarking Rs 18 lakh for garbage management.
