Seraulim resolves to demand scrapping of EVMs in LS polls

MARGAO

The Seraulim gram sabha on Sunday has resolved to demand scrapping of the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in the forthcoming Lok Sabha election.

At the gram sabha meeting chaired by deputy Sarpanch Leslie Dourado, members demanded that the Election Commission of India revert back to the old ballot system of voting in the election.

The Seraulim railway crossing and the inundated Seraulim Underpass took the centre stage at the gram sabha. Agitated members demanded that the Seaulim railway crossing should not be shut down, saying the road underpass has failed to cater to the requirements of the road users.

Members pointed out that the road underpass remains flooded not only during the monsoons, but through the year, saying that closure of the railway crossing would put the local villagers to great hardships.

Members further pointed out that the intersection of the underpass has become dangerous with the authorities taking no initiative to mitigate the hardships faced by the people.

The issue of illegal land filling allegedly by the deputy sarpanch was raised by the gram sabha members. The members also demanded to know the delay in conducting inspection of the scrap yard as per the resolution adopted at  the last gram sabha.

The budget estimates for the financial year 2024-25 was approved at the gram sabha.
