Trouble brews for Curlies beach shack restaurant as the National Green Tribunal (NGT) is hearing an appeal that challenges the order of Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) directing demolishing of the structure.
Co-owner Linet Nunes had filed a petition before the NGT challenging the order after taking the matter to the High Court of Bombay at Goa and eventually Supreme Court.
Complainant Kashinath Shetye had moved the Authority alleging the structure that serves as a restaurant, bar and nightclub has violated the CRZ norms laid down by the Central and State authorities. The demolition order was in response to his petition which was thereafter challenged and Supreme Court directed the NGT to decide the matter.
The online hearing scheduled on Tuesday was marred by a technical glitch as a result of which the State failed to represent in the matter. Shetye who also couldn't enter for the hearing had submitted written arguments before the video hearing.
On Wednesday, the Authority approached the NGT seeking a fresh hearing.
The structure is also facing the ire of the government after a BJP leader Sonali Phogat was allegedly drugged in the premises resulting in her instant death. The local authorities have sealed the premises for investigation and process has begun to suspend it's operations until it comes out clean on the issue and other allegations regarding its construction
