VASCO
Social Activist Peter Andrade on Friday expressed concerns over the parking congestion faced in Vasco city and said that while the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) along with other Authorities had only been making announcements, the issues were not being resolved.Speaking to reporters, Andrade said that there was haphazard parking all across Vasco which is already struggling with parking spaces and appealed to authorities to resolve the issue.
"There was a major announcement made by various MMC Chairpersons that traffic department has given a proposal for pay parking around MMC building but it has been years and nothing has happened. Pavements are encroached by shopkeepers and beggars and some have even come on roads and there is no space to park. People park haphazardly where there is space to park with a four-wheeler parked in a two-wheeler spot and vice versa," said Andrade.
Andrade stated that the city was a mess created by politicians and that relevant authorities including MMC must put their foot down to act on the issues and resolve it.
"We have major parking issues and there are many accidents happening as well due to haphazard parking. While Vasco is called a cosmopolitan city, all we have here is an announcement and no action and no facilities," Andrade added.
