MARGAO
The Goa State Information Commission has issued directions to the Director of Panchayats to undertake an inquiry into the claim of records going missing from the office of the Secretary of the Village Panchayat of Cavelossim.
The Commission has further directed the Panchayat Director to initiate appropriate proceedings against the Secretaries of the Cavelossim village panchayat, responsible for the missing documents.
That’s not all. The Salcete Block Development Officer has been directed to monitor the inquiry of the FIR filed by the Cavelossim Panchayat Secretary on the missing documents with the Colva police station.
Disposing off a second appeal filed by a resident of Curtorim, Oswald Fernandes, who had knocked the doors of the Goa State Information Commission to direct the Cavelossim Panchayat Secretary to provide certain documents, State Information Commissioner Sanjay N Dhavalikar observed that since the remaining information is not traceable as of now and the FIR having being registered in the Police Station, the Commission is unable to direct the PIO to furnish the remaining information.
He, however, said that itself does not absolve the Panchayat Secretary of his responsibility under the Act and the Act governing the Village Panchayats under which such documents are required to be maintained.
