About 250 hectares of paddy fields in Bardez taluka have been damaged due to heavy rainfall over the last two months, causing losses to 951 farmers to the tune of Rs 69 lakh.

Several paddy fields in the taluka have been submerged in rainwater due to continuous rains.

The Mapusa Zonal Agricultural Office has received around 951 applications from affected farmers till August 8.

The paddy fields damaged have been reported in Aldona, Nachinola, Assagao, Pomburpa, Siolim, Moira, Salvador do Mundo, Sangolda, Penha de Franca, Colvale, Madel, Ucassaim, Bastora, Tivim, Camurlim, Oxel, Calangute, Socorro, Guirim, Nerul, Parra and Pilarne.

“We have received 951 applications from affected farmers. About 250 hectares of paddy fields have been damaged, causing a loss of Rs 69 lakh,” said ZAO Samatta Dhargalkar.

“As many as 650 applications pertaining to 205 hectares have been processed by the office. The remaining applications are being processed.”
