Shop owners at the Sanguem market complex, which also houses the office of the Deputy Collector at Sanguem, have complained about the deteriorating condition of the market complex and have demanded immediate action on the matter.
The shop owners told reporters that in the last several months, the condition of the market complex has deteriorated to such an extent that they claim there is leakage in the power supply through the damaged ceiling. They claimed that the metal bar carrying the electricity wires is damaged and is on the verge of collapse.
The shop owners expressed fears that the metal bar could fall on visitors to their establishments or the office of the deputy collector, which is housed on the first floor.
The shop owners also complained of leakage of water all around the market complex, making it difficult for them to carry out their day-to-day business activities, as customers are reluctant to visit the complex on account of the accumulation of water on the ground floor.
Speaking on the issue, Sanguem Councillor Meshu D’Costa said the situation at the market complex is very bad and repairs are needed on an urgent basis. “I will raise the issue of the deteriorating condition of the market complex at the council meeting on August 12,” said D’Costa.
