The committee set up by the government to finalise the State’s higher education policy by studying the New Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020) has sought four months and is likely to submit its report by February end.
The government had set up a 27-member committee in September with former chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar as its head.
The committee has already started its work and the first meeting has also been held. However, it has been decided that the committee will seek more time to study the policy thoroughly, said chairman Parsekar.
Speaking on the issue, Parsekar said “the academic year starts from June. If the committee submits its report in February, the government will get enough time to take further decisions”.
He said 5 sub-committees have been formed and tasks have been allotted to these sub-committees. One sub-committee under the leadership of the IIT director will decide on the professional education syllabus.
For the technical syllabus, a sub-committee under the leadership of the NIT director will work out a plan.
"We will hold regular meetings in the next four months and finalise the report", said Parsekar.
The NEP 2020 is focusing on multi-disciplinary approach, which will allow the students to opt for their line of education at an early stage. Under a four-year undergraduate programme with multiple exit options for students, a multi-disciplinary bachelor’s degree will be awarded after completing four years of study, while students exiting after two years will get a diploma and those leaving after 12 months would have studied a vocational/professional course.
