Govt sets eyes on cultural events from Dec; Gaude says plans afoot for Lokotsav

PANAJI

With Unlock 4.0 coming into force and the gradual opening up of the economy, the government is now tinkering with the possibility of giving the green signal for cultural events in the State from December.

Confirming this, Art and Culture Minister Govind Gaude said

"the Centre has started the process of phase-wise unlocking the restrictions imposed due to Covid. In this background we are planning to start cultural events by adhering to all norms from December".

Gaude disclosed that a proposal to start cultural events has already been sent to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.

“Theatres will be opened from October 15. After that, the cultural events can be held with all social distancing norms”, he said.

Stating that stage artistes in the State had suffered due to the lockdown, Gaude said there was a need to help this fraternity.

The Lokostav is one of the biggest cultural events held by the Art and Culture department which showcases the local culture and food items of different communities of India.

Thousands of people visit the Lokostav event and it has become the brand of Goa, he said.

He assured that the Art and Culture Department will organize the festival this year and said the department has already initiated the process to conduct this event.

If at all the event cannot be held in January we will postpone it to April, said Gaude.
