Parts of Bhati-Sanguem without water for 4th day

Villagers threaten protest at water supply dept on Monday

SANGUEM

Villagers from Kumari, Bombdimol and Villian in Bhati-Sanguem continued to remain without drinking water supply for the fourth day.

The department however made alternate arrangement to supply drinking water to the villagers from the bore well at Valshem village but for a brief period of about half an hour, informed a villager Anil Kakodkar.

With no permanent solution in sight and efforts not being made to remove the three broken pumps installed in the bore well at Kumari, the only solution that remains in sight is to construct a new bore well in the village, villagers said.

While local MLA Subhash Phaldessai and PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral reportedly visited the affected village on Saturday, the only assurances were given for early resumption of water supply to the villagers.

“With the department’s failure to come out with a concrete solution, the villagers have threatened to lead an agitation to the water supply department on Monday,” informed Kakodkar.

“The department is taking the issue lightly and we fail to understand as to how the department does not have the know how to remove the defunct water pumps installed in the bore well.”

While the water supplied for about half an hour is barely sufficient to fulfil their drinking water needs, the villagers have had to walk to the nearby river to get water for domestic needs.
