PMC meet discusses ways to boost revenue

PERNEM

Measures to boost revenue were among the issues discussed at the Pernem Municipal Council meeting on Tuesday.

The meeting was chaired by PMC Chairperson Usha Nagvekar and was attended by Deputy Chairperson Manoj Harmalkar, other councillors and Chief Officer Akshaya Amonkar.

Nagvekar informed the councillors that a new PMC office building would be constructed after demolishing the old complex.

She informed that the PMC office would temporarily be shifted to the KTC bus stand in Pernem and a rent of Rs 35,000 per month would be paid to the KTC.

The chairperson said the new PMC building will have 11 shops and read out the names of all 11 shop owners and councillors discussed how much space to be allotted to each shop owner.

"Give them space as per the old building. Those who were previously in the first row should be allotted the first row in the new building as well," suggested Councillor Madhav Shenvi Desai.

Councillor Vishnu Salgaonkar suggested a hike in taxes for shop owners in the new PMC building as the current tax was very less.

A biodiversity committee was also elected during the meeting.

Councillors Siddhesh Pednekar and Vishnu Salgaonkar suggested that permission be sought from the directorate of municipal administration to clear all roadside bushes.

Councillor Siddhesh Pednekar suggested creating public awareness so that locals have a clear idea of what necessary documents to attach along with their forms.

He also suggested granting of NOC for power and water connections to poor as well as local people under the Health Act.

“This way, the PMC will generate revenue or else, they will directly obtain NOCs under the Health Act and the PMC would lose revenue in the process,” justified Pednekar.
