State president of Indian Academy of Paediatrics (IAP) Dr Dhanesh Volvoikar said children have been homebound for more than 17 months and as a result have been displaying significant physical and psychosocial health issues.
He said the educational void was increasing and in this situation reopening of schools to bring back normalcy is eagerly awaited. “The decision for reopening, therefore, needs to be taken vigilantly with a scientific temper,” he added
IAP has also released an advisory on reopening stating the reasons why schools need to be reopened. Covid pandemic has adversely affected millions of children. With prolonged school closures, children’s education has, arguably, suffered the most, it stated.
