RGP files plaint with CEO over social media post targeting party

OLD GOA
The Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) has filed a complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer and the North Goa Returning Office, over a social media post stating that false allegations have been made against the party, thereby violating the model Code of Conduct.

The complaint has been made by party treasurer Ajay Kholkar in which he has highlighted how a social media post mentions that RGP received a huge amount of cash from the BJP with the intent to damage the reputation of the Congress (INDI Alliance) in the upcoming election.

“The post further mentions that our party is acting as a vote splitter, thereby aiding the BJP in gaining votes and undermining the electoral prospects of the Congress (INDI Alliance),” the complaint further states.

The complaint then goes on to add that the content of the post is not only entirely false but also highly defamatory to the party and its members.

“It undermines the trust of our voters and followers, tarnishing our reputation and integrity in the eyes of the public. The post also references a channel name, ‘The Goa Pulse,’ and provides an email ([email protected]), suggesting an attempt to lend false credibility to the misinformation being spread,” the complaint goes on to add.

Kholkar has appealed to the Election Commission to conduct a thorough investigation to identify the originator/s of this false post and to hold them accountable for violating the Mode Code of Conduct.

“We emphasise the urgency of this matter and urge the Election Commission to prioritise this complaint. Swift and decisive action is essential to prevent further dissemination of false information and to uphold the integrity and fairness of the electoral process,” the complaint further states.

Kholkar has further assured all assistance to the Election Commission in expediting the investigation and ensuring justice. A copy of the social media post has also been attached along with the complaint.
